GW Factions

orbs of destruction

so is it just me, or is this canthan event for the dragon masks goofier than usual?

the quests were ok, but these goofy missions with 40 level 28s are really a pain. there is absolutely no reason for them to start from the monastery, a starter character can't possibly do them. they should start from zen daijun or seitung.

ah well. at least i did see evidence tonight that it can be done. we were at 39/40 foes dead. but my monk was dead and nobody else had a non-burnt out rez. and then the mesmer died...

Guild Wars Shiverpeak Map

This is a paintshop map of the Shiverpeaks area and was created from 4 screen shots. On the center-right it I couldn't line it up so there is a small strip that is doubled. Bacically, you get the picture. Hope it helps.

DeadMeat

Yea, i know, no map. Higher powers are working on that problem.

Guild Wars Factions Pre-Order key item unlocks?

Ok, so I entered my key and promptly got distracted. I know it told me what the items were, there are two of them, but I didn't write them down.

Someone who actually paid attention, please tell me (either post, or PM, whichever) what they are? Smile

Thanks!

Guild Wars Factions Head Start Event

The Head Start Event is coming for those who pre-ordered Guild Wars Factions. Your pre-order key will be good from 12:01 a.m. PDT (7:01 GMT) on Thursday, April 27th through 11:59 p.m. on Friday, April 28th (6:59 GMT on April 29th). This will give any new Factions characters and any "Ascended" Prophecies characters access to Cantha during that period. Further, you will have access to two extra slots (i.e. total of 6) if you already own Guild Wars Prophecies and choose to link the Factions key to your existing account.

And, perhaps most importantly, there is a 10 day grace period during which your new characters and Factions content will be retained (although inaccessible after the Head Start Event). You must enter a valid, full-access Factions key during that time or you risk having those characters and items deleted from your account. See the news article "Character Slots for Head Start Event 24 April 2006" for details.

Hopefully the Xunlai agents will be available. I'm so new to this I'm really not sure if "Ascended" is the same as "Seared" but I think it must be. So, my new Prophecies characters won't be ready. I'll have to make a new Assassin Smile

Apparently there will be some Naga Fangs you can collect by killing the invading Naga, and you can trade them in for Tengu Masks at Shing Jea Monastery, but only during the Head Start Event. Whee!!!

Where can you get access to the Guild Wars Factions Head Start Event? You have to buy the Guild Wars Factions Pre-Order Gift Pack. It is in stores now, I've seen it in area stores. I bought mine from online, though.

Guild Wars Factions: Confusing Marketing Alert

Ok, so I have a hard time believing anyone is actually doing anything evil here, but I do want to point out some partially misleading information that I saw on the retail package for the GW:Factions "Pre-Order Gift Pack" at Fry's Electronics today.

First, I am discussing the Pre-Order Gift Pack CD, which is clearly labeled "Pre-Order Only, Full Game Not Included." It is NOT the pre-order of the game, and it does not entitle you to anything except 24 hour early access to Factions, and some trial keys for some other games. Unfortunately, the manufacturer's intended message is obscured even further by the sticker that Fry's has put on it, which conveniently eclipses some of the important text on the package from NCSoft / Arenanet.

Second, Fry's has labeled it "Guild Wars Factions Preorder / $9.99 / Receipt Required / $9.99 off Full Version" or similar, in some crazy abbreviations that are deciphered with some thought.

Third, Fry's has a full size (8.5"x11") sign on the shelf that says in no uncertain terms "Guild Wars Factions Pre-Order $9.99" This is where most of the confusion is, because if you actually inspect the package and Fry's label, you will quickly discover that this is NOT the true pre-order.

Is this fraud? No. But you need to be doing a double-take if you are trying to acquire the Pre-Order package in a retail store, because this $9.99 package is available on Amazon for $2. Also, you get it shipped early free if you buy the true Pre-Order Box at the same time.

I did not see the true Pre-Order Box at Fry's. However, the implied discount (with receipt ) is roughly equal to the deal on Amazon for the Pre-Order Box + Pre-Order Gift Pak. I don't personally feel like fooling around with this, I'll just order on Amazon. However, the nearest Fry's associate did attempt to assure me that if I were to buy the $9.99 disk at Fry's, I'd get the $9.99 off the $49.99 retail version when it hits the shelves.

Again, not fraud, but possibly misleading. Especially if you are somewhat distracted when browsing or otherwise in a hurry.

Happy NOLFing...
